If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s this: the emotional maturity of a society directly shapes its political landscape.
Right now, we’re watching systems crumble under the weight of reactivity. People are divided by fear and differences in their values. We see rising anxiety, escalating rhetoric, and leaders who model dysregulation rather than reflection. Our public discourse feels more like a trauma response than a civic conversation.
And here’s why that matters:
When emotional intelligence is low, chaos wins.
What’s missing in the current political climate isn’t just civility—it’s emotional skill. Skills like:
Recognizing when something in the “now” brings up something in the past.
Regulating our feelings and our nervous systems.
How to disagree instead of dehumanizing others.
Recognizing--not weaponizing--feelings.
These are not “soft skills.” These are survival skills for democracy. And yet, few people are taught them—especially if they grew up in homes, schools, or communities where overwhelming events were the norm. Those events? Natural disasters, accidents, medical crises, relational crises, and all the other usual suspects that are maltreatment.
That’s why we built TR-EQ. And that’s the basis of all our coaching projects.
